State Representative Joan Meschino Running for Reelection

Hull, MA – When she was first elected, State Representative Joan Meschino (D-Hull) knew the job of representing Hingham, Hull, Cohasset, and North Scituate at the State House would be exciting and challenging. What she didn’t know was how sincerely satisfying it would be to serve the district’s residents. “Every day, I have the chance to do something to make life better for residents in our towns. I get to work and interact with people and to be part of good solutions for many local issues, initiatives, and needs,” said Representative Meschino. Representative Meschino has made progress on many of the big issues facing our District during her second term.  Very notably, she has had success working to interrupt the climate crisis.  Her signature bill, An Act to create a 2050 Roadmap to a clean and thriving Massachusetts, was passed by the House in July and now is moving forward . . . BOSTON, MA – Today, the Town of Cohasset was awarded two Seaport Economic Council (SEC) Grants, totaling $330,000, to advance projects updating the Government Island Wharf and the Parker Ave. Boat Ramp. The announcement comes after the SEC, chaired by Lt. House Passes 2050 Roadmap Bill for Addressing Climate Change

(BOSTON) - Last Friday, the House of Representatives passed H.4912, an Act creating a roadmap to a clean and thriving commonwealth, originally filed by Representative Joan Meschino (D-Hull).  Known as the “2050 Roadmap,” the bill updates the state’s greenhouse gas emissions reduction goal to net zero by 2050, sets robust interim targets, and establishes comprehensive and iterative planning mechanisms to help the Commonwealth achieve that goal. “The science is clear: to avoid the devastation of climate change, greenhouse gas emissions must be reduced to net zero by 2050. This goal will only be met by a comprehensive planning process, which locks in key milestones now to get us there in 30 years. I filed the 2050 Roadmap Bill to help us achieve that objective,” said Representative Meschino. “Today, I am excited to announce that my colleagues and I in the Massachusetts House of Representatives came together and passed a roadmap for . . . House Unanimously Passes $1.3 Billion for Community Climate Resiliency Projects

This week, Representative Joan Meschino (D-Hull) voted with her colleagues in the Massachusetts House of Representatives to pass legislation investing $1.3 billion to help cities and towns across Massachusetts to fund infrastructure projects aimed at fighting climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.  The legislation establishes a $1 billion, 10-year grant program – known as GreenWorks – to fund clean energy, energy efficiency, and climate change resiliency measures that cut greenhouse gas emissions, fortify infrastructure and reduce municipal costs. The legislation also invests $325 million in other municipal green projects.  “Ensuring that municipalities have access to funds for mitigation, adaptation, and resiliency is crucial as we combat climate change,” said Representative Meschino. “The investments GreenWorks makes in every town unlocks their potential to lead the way.” Modeled after the state’s MassWorks program, GreenWorks funds projects that improve climate preparedness and resiliency, promote or produce clean energy or energy efficiency, build . . . House Passes Legislation to Support Vulnerable Children and Families

(BOSTON) - Representative Joan Meschino (D-Hull) and her colleagues in the House passed legislation this week to support vulnerable children and families in the Commonwealth. The bill, H.4841, An Act relative to accountability for vulnerable children and families, reforms the Department of Children and Families’ (DCF) data reporting mechanisms, updates some of their practices, establishes a foster parents bill of rights, and evaluates the impacts of COVID-19 on services.  Specifically included in the final bill were two provisions filed by Representative Meschino. The first, born out of H.148, An Act to provide notice to counsel of changes in a child’s or a young adult’s placement and other events, mandates that DCF notify a child’s attorney in the event of a change in placement, hospitalization, or if a 51A abuse and neglect report is filed that involves the child. These provisions seek to create consistent and meaningful legal advocacy to support . . . Read More
