(BOSTON) – On Tuesday, August 27th, Representative Joan Meschino (D-Hull) attended a Candlelight Vigil hosted by Safe Harbor Cohasset in recognition of Overdose Awareness Day. The event sought to reduce the stigma of drug-related deaths, raise awareness about overdose prevention, and bring together the community to remember those lost to substance use.
“The opioid epidemic has touched every community, and the South Shore is no different,” said Representative Meschino (D-Hull). “It is vital that we provide sufficient resources for those among us currently struggling with substance use disorders and our communities which feel the ripple effects. We must work to decrease stigma so that we can increase care and treatment.”
August 31st was International Overdose Awareness Day, and it is the world’s largest annual campaign to reduce overdoses, remember without stigma those who have died, and acknowledge the grief of family and friends left behind. September 1st marked the beginning of National Recovery Month, which is dedicated to promoting treatment, celebrating the recovery community, and giving thanks to service providers who facilitate recovery.
